Kiryuzuna bonsai substrate. A compound of volcanic origin long used as a substrate for bonsai. It contains a large amount of iron and a high water retention capacity.

Kiryuzuna Substrate is an excellent soil for bonsai, composed of volcanic sand, which retains moisture and nutrients. nutrients better than other substrates such as Akadama or Kanuma. Its iron content helps promote growth of microorganisms in the soil, becoming a welcoming environment for the development of bonsai plants.

It is the best medium grain substrate for temperate bonsai, ideal for most varieties of Japanese maple, junipers and suiseki that have yellow leaves.

Large grains create perfect spaces to create a root ball and store many nutrients. It has a great water holding capacity and when mixed with other smaller substrates creates an excellent soil for tropical bonsai with a medium to high transpiration rate (Camellias, some Azaleas and other species tropical).

Its excellent water retention capacity makes it especially suitable for the development of new bonsai and the cultivation of Sempervirens (Ficus) and some species of cacti.

It promotes good drainage and aeration of the soil, which retains moisture well. Kiryuzuna substrate can also be used as an inert material in the mixture to grow other species.
